The Dropped Beat is a small music blog from the Boston/St. Louis/Middle-of-Nowhere, Ohio area. We will bring you the most up to date music reviews and headlines and ensure that you know what’s going on in the music industry today. We find great music so that you don’t have to.
About the Authors:
Derek is a student at Washington University in St. Louis pursuing a prestigious degree in “undecided.” Although he is attending school in Missouri, Derek continues to call Boston home and always makes sure to get out for a concert or two when he goes home for vacations. Derek founded The Dropped Beat in 2011 as a junior in high school and continues to maintain the blog as well as write and take photographs. He really listens to everything but his favorite genre is garage rock/guitar rock, especially bands such as The Strokes, Japandroids, Titus Andronicus as well older groups like The Velvet Underground and The Rolling Stones. He despises Taio Cruz, Lupe Fiasco, fade outs, and writing in the third person.
Paul is a student at Kenyon College studying to be a philosophy/biology double major. Boston is home, but rural Ohio is the new home, and he now roots for OSU, despite caring very little about college sports. Unlike the other members of the staff, he prefers to listen to rap and electronic music over the indie music that appears to dominate the blogisphere. In particular, he enjoys Danny Brown, A$AP Rocky, Joey Bada$$, Disclosure and Flying Lotus.
Julian is a freshman at Washington University in St. Louis studying whatever will get him a job in four years. He’s got New England roots, but he doesn’t root for the Pats, mostly because he thinks their uniforms are lame and he doesn’t like Tom Brady. Some of his favorite artists are The Rolling Stones, Phoenix, Band of Horses, Arcade Fire and Public Enemy (when he has his car doors locked). The most legitimate journalist of the group, he’s won a bunch of awards, but we don’t let it get to his head.
Note that any downloads you find are for sampling purposes only. If you like a band enough to download their songs, its worth sending a little money their way to keep the music coming. If you are an artist and you want us to take down your track, send us an email and we will remove it as soon as possible.
